I really, really can't wait to see this one - been waiting for it ever since I first saw the trailer, which I thought was hilarious. Anyway, we'll see whether I'll like it or not - thanks for the review!
OMG YES!! The scene with the well was simply glorious! Which reminds me that I was going to talk about it in my review and then got carried away with other things. :) But I do agree that a remote control with a FF button would have helped in some places with this one. Not sure what Vishal was thinking because even as I loved his sense of humour in the more comedic 7 Khoon Maaf and Kaminey (as opposed to the other more dramatic films which you have already seen from him), there was indeed something disjointed about this one.
I've said this before: with so many great scenes, not sure why he felt the need to dilute with all that serious stuff. Also, not a fan of the abundance of bathroom humour, especially the Peepli-Live-esque scene with the blind kid and the UFO. Meh.
Still, when it was funny, it was hysterical, so there is hope yet for VB as a comedy director, I'd say. :)
Kaminey was comic? I recognised it as a good film, certainly one of Shahid's best performances, but found the violence too much for my delicate sensibilities. I'm embarrassed to have to confess that I had no idea it was VB film.
I definitely agree that VB shows promise as a comic director. Of those underwhelmed by the film, I'm one of the minority who wished for more of the comic and surreal, less of the sober. A brave experiment, and hopefully a precursor of better things to come.
I agree with you completely, Stuart! I watched this yesterday, and while I loved certain scenes (the well one is a classic, and even that one in the plane at night was pretty funny) - it seemed to really drag the rest of the time. But it made me think of watching Maalamaal Weekly again...

ReplyDeleteThere is a lot to like, Mette, I'm sure you'll find it fun, even if you do also find it flawed.

ReplyDeleteRewatching Malamaal Weekly is an excellent idea - a Hindi remake that I prefer to the Anglo original. Fine choice! :)
